In fact, Season 2 of Picard featured Alison Pill's character Dr. The idea of an entire civilization of pure evil, with no capacity for reason, goes against the ethos of Star Trek. The Borg are villains Roddenberry wouldn't have liked. Continuing that journey in Picard, Seven of Nine is a fearsome fighter, leader and dedicated to her chosen collective. The story of how she reclaimed her humanity and then helped other ex-Borg do the same was powerful on its own. The impetus to bring her aboard Voyager may have been superficial, yet Seven of Nine was anything but. Ryan delivered just as much in her performance as her colleagues, despite having less emotional range available to her. Despite all these obstacles - including a costume that required Ryan to receive oxygen between takes - Seven of Nine became one of the most beloved characters on the show.
